Nancy J. Hicks

Nancy Hicks is a healthcare communications professional with more than 30 years of experience working with top tier companies in every sector of the healthcare industry.  She has been a strategic counselor to pharmaceutical, medical device, provider, and association clients.  Her work includes corporate reputation and brand building, issues/crisis management, strategic planning, and business development.  She has published two books, including Branding Health Services: Defining Yourself in the Marketplace, published in 2000 by Aspen Publishers and she published Health Communication:  New Media, New Methods, New Message in 2011.  Ms. Hicks has received many awards including the PRSA Health Academy Lifetime Achievement Award. 

For more than a decade, Ms. Hicks was responsible for Ketchum’s North America healthcare practice.  She was a senior counselor for Ketchum healthcare clients and helped build business throughout the Ketchum network.  She is credited with establishing a healthcare practice in Ketchum’s Chicago office and driving revenue growth in Washington and other offices.  She developed the Ketchum healthcare blog, HealthE-Minds, and led thought leadership initiatives including publishing numerous articles and blog posts.

Ms. Hicks has extensive experience in strategic brand building, corporate positioning, issues and crisis management, and consumer education campaigns.  Her clients have included GlaxoSmithKline, Hospira, Wyeth, Eli Lilly, Scios (J&J), Janssen (J&J), Shionogi Pharmaceuticals, Aetna, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, University of Kansas Hospital, Montefiore Medical Center, University of Pennsylvania Health System, University HealthSystem Consortium, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, CooperVision, and St. Jude Medical.

Ms. Hicks has extensive knowledge of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and has published articles on communications aspects of the healthcare law.  She has worked for the State of New York on the enrollment campaign for their exchange.

Ms. Hicks graduated from the University of Washington with a B.A. in English and completed a liberal arts program in London.
