CMS Grants

In March 2010, the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and the Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act of 2010 were signed into law. Together, these two laws are collectively referred to as the Affordable Care Act and include a wide variety of provisions designed to expand coverage, to provide more health care choices, to enhance the quality of health care for all Americans, and to lower health care costs. Among its provisions, the law provides grant funding to assist jurisdictions in developing and implementing Health Insurance Exchanges.

On July 24, 2014, HBX was awarded a Level One Establishment Grant from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in the amount of $25.8 million. The vast majority of these grant monies will be expended on IT.  The HBX continues to build functionalities to the system to enhance the consumer shopping experience.
