Affordable Care Act is Working in DC

Washington, DC – The National Center for Health Statistics’ recently released report “Health Insurance Coverage: Early Release of Estimates From the National Health Interview Survey, 2015” shows that the District of Columbia continues to have one of the lowest uninsured rates in the nation. The National Center for Health Statistics report highlights the fact that the Affordable Care Act is working in the District of Columbia to help individuals and families have affordable quality health coverage, both private and public. According to the report, the District has an uninsured rate of 3.7% -- tied with Wisconsin for the third lowest uninsured rate in the nation.

Since DC Health Link opened for business October 1, 2013, over 221,000 people have enrolled in health coverage through DC Health Link in private insurance or Medicaid. Over 63,000 people have had private individual or job-based health insurance coverage through DC Health Link and nearly 158,000 people were determined eligible for Medicaid.

“The Affordable Care Act is working in the District of Columbia. We will continue our efforts to make sure every person who lives or works in the District has the financial security and access to medical care that affordable quality health coverage brings,” said Mila Kofman, J.D., Executive Director of the DC Health Benefit Exchange Authority.
