Information on Coverage Beginning January 1

For Coverage Starting January 1

If you have selected a plan through DC Health Link and paid your first month’s premium, but have not received your Member ID card, you can contact your carrier about accessing benefits starting January 1.  If you have not yet paid for your enrollment, you will need to contact your carrier to pay before you can access benefits.  Please see the information below for carrier contact instructions.


Aetna

The customer service numbers for Aetna are included below.  Aetna customer service is open on January 1 and customers can pay by phone.

For Customers Enrolled in Individual and Family Plan

Call 1(855) 586-6959 toll free from 8 am - 6 pm EST, Monday - Friday.

For Brokers and Employers

Call 1(888) 422-2128 from 8 am - 5 pm EST, Monday - Friday.

For Small Business Employees

Call 1(855) 885-3289 from 8 am - 6 pm EST, Monday - Friday. 

For Congressional Employees

Call 1-800-544-0526 from 8 am - 8 pm EST, Monday - Friday.  


CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield

If you have paid for your January 1 coverage, you can go to www.carefirst.com after 24 hours to register and print a temporary ID card. Also, please see CareFirst customer service numbers below. CareFirst customer service is not open on January 1.

  • If you need to check the status of your application, call 1(855) 444-3119.
  • If you need to visit the doctor but haven’t received your ID card (and you haven’t yet paid your first month’s premium), call (855) 444-3119.
  • If you received an invoice and now need to make a payment to finalize your enrollment so that you can receive your ID card, call (855) 444-3121.
  • If you need to visit the doctor but haven’t received your ID card (and you have paid your first month’s premium), call (855) 444-3121.

Kaiser Permanente

If you have selected Kaiser Permanente on DC Health Link you may call (866) 475-3925 to speak with a customer service representative about your coverage or to pay by phone. If you have paid you first month’s premium, you will be able to get information on accessing benefits by calling customer service.  

Kaiser Permanente is open on January 1 for urgent appointments and medical advice at 1(800) 777-7904. For hearing or speech impaired please dial the relay operator at 711 and ask to be connected to (855) 632-8278.  If you require Emergency Care please call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.


United Health Care

If you have paid for your January 1 coverage, you can go to www.uhc.com to register and print a temporary ID card starting January 3.  You can also call 1(877) 856-2430 to speak with a customer service representative about your coverage. United Health Care customer service is not open on January 1.
