Dr. LaQuandra S. Nesbitt is a board-certified family physician with over a decade of experience leading population health initiatives in governmental public health agencies. As a physician leader, Dr. Nesbitt mobilizes organizations and communities to implement innovative solutions that promote health and wellness, and achieve health equity. Throughout her career she has led multi-sector collaborations to address innovation in healthcare delivery and its impact on high cost, high need and other special populations; the integration of public health and healthcare; and the impact of emerging infectious diseases on population health.
Dr. Nesbitt currently serves as Senior Associate Dean for Population Health Sciences and Health Equity and Bicentennial Endowed Professor of Medicine and Health Sciences at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and is the inaugural Executive Director of the Center for Population Health Sciences and Health Equity. Prior to joining the faculty of GW, Dr. Nesbitt most recently served as the Director of the District of Columbia Department of Health in Washington, DC, from January 2015 to July 2022 where she led with a focus on health equity and improving the quality of health programs and healthcare services for all DC residents, working to address the District’s most pressing health challenges. Prior to her role in DC, Dr. Nesbitt served as the Director of the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness where she led initiatives focused on Affordable Care Act implementation and violence prevention.
Dr. Nesbitt is a published author and served as an executive editor of Population Health: Management, Policy, nd Technology. Dr. Nesbitt currently serves as a member of the GW Medical Faculty Associates Board of Trustees and the Altarum Institute Board of Trustees. She has also previously held roles as a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis’ Health Industry Council, the Commonwealth Fund Health Care Delivery System Reform Program National Advisory Group, the Chair of the Association of State and Territorial Health Official’s Performance Improvement and Accreditation Policy Committee, and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee to the Director where she served as co-chair of the Public Health and Healthcare Collaboration Workgroup. Her expertise in public health, population health, equity, and governance has led to appointments to numerous boards and commissions.
