DC Health Link at NYED Social (National Youth Enrollment Day)

Research indicates that nearly 1 in 5 young adults do not have health insurance. On National Youth Enrollment Day (NYED), DC Health Link will partner with local and national groups to host a NYED Social at Iron horse Taproom- 507 7th St NW to educate young adults about the benefits of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and enrolling them in quality affordable health insurance through DC Health Link. The NYED Social will include activities such as onsite enrollment, door prizes, trivia questions and board games in addition to a citywide NYED #GetCovered social media campaign.

DC Health Link at Café Crawl to Enroll Young Invincible and Millennials

During the YI/Millennial Week of Action DC Health Link assisters and certified navigators will be at five District cafés for what is called a “Café Crawl” at The Potters House, Tryst Coffeehouse, The Diner, Pleasant Pops & Boardroom. They will be equipped with laptops to provide onsite enrollment support and ACA and DC Health Link materials. They will answer questions about the enrollment process and to offer information about financial help with premiums.

While the rate of uninsured in America has dropped significantly since the enactment of President Obama’s Affordable Care Act (ACA), the uninsured rate in the Latino community is generally higher than the general population.  In fact, according to recent data released by the U.S. Census in 2012-2013, the Latino community has a significantly higher rate of uninsured than other racial groups.  Nearly a third of Hispanics are uninsured in over half of all U.S. states.
