By Any Means Necessary: Enrolling Young Adults in Health Plans at Ice Rinks, Gourmet Markets, Churches and Tax Filing Locations

Friday, February 14, 2014
DC Health Link participates in National Youth Enrollment Day to ramp-up enrollment efforts before March 31st deadline.

What/Who:
A nation-wide effort to educate young adults and enroll them in affordable health insurance plans kicks-off this Saturday, February 15, 2014 during National Youth Enrollment Day (NYED).

NYED will be an action packed day focused on educating young adults about the importance of having health insurance. DC Health Link, in partnership with several organizations will celebrate this day by hosting a series of youth focused enrollment events throughout the District of Columbia. These enrollment activities are specifically tailored to young invincibles (ages 18-35) and will provide these young consumers with the opportunity to enroll in health plans on-site at each of the enrollment events.

DC Health Link and its assister’s organizations (Capital City Area Health Education Center, Young Invincibles, Brown Memorial AME Church as well as Enroll America) will jump-start NYED at Union Market and Congresswoman’s Norton’s Annual Tax Fair.

Union Market has become a main attraction for many young adults on the weekends, and this location was selected because it is a unique melting pot of culture, cuisine and shopping for many different types of potential health insurance consumers.

Congresswoman Norton’s Annual Tax Fair is a prime opportunity to reach and educate consumers of all ages in the District about affordable, quality health insurance. Hundreds of residents are expected to attend this annual event and will already have with them a number of key documents needed to complete on-site enrollment in health plans.

DC Health Link and its partner community based organizations will use these high traffic locations to make contact with target demographics and connect them to facts and information that will help them choose a health coverage plan that best meets their needs and budgets.

The day will also include a Health Insurance Enrollment Education Summit at Brown Memorial AME Church where assister and insurance brokers will provide information about eligibility for premium credits and federal subsidies and assist with the enrollment process. A special enrollment event for professional artists, entitled “Calling All Artists to Enroll” is designed to give artist the opportunity to learn about the Affordable Care Act and DC Health Link.

The day will end with DC Health Link on ice, which will take place at the District’s newest ice skating rink, Canal Park.  Assisters will don skates and dispatch onto the ice to reach young invincibles, answer questions, provide them with information about the importance of getting covered and schedule enrollment appointments.
