DC Health Link and Former NFL Players Team-Up to Tackle the Rate of Uninsured Residents in Ward 7

Players and community leaders urge residents to enroll in affordable health plans before the March 2014 deadline.

What/Who:
DC Health Link (DCHL) has partnered with the National Football League Players Association Washington Former Players Chapter (NFLPA) to help Ward 7 residents and small business owners enroll in health insurance plans that meet their needs and budgets through DCHealthLink.com. DC Health Link is the District’s new health insurance marketplace.

The concerted effort to educate and enroll Ward 7 residents during “DC Health Link Ward 7 Enrollment Day” will take place at four (4) conveniently located public libraries. Trained experts will be onsite to assist with the enrollment process. FREE health screenings, private enrollment booths and activities for children will be offered at each site.

The Enrollment Day will kick-off at 12 Noon at the Capital View Library. Dr. Calvin Snowden, President of the National Football League Players Association Washington Former Players Chapter along with DC Councilmember Yvette Alexander (Ward 7) and other leaders will welcome the Ward 7 community, and encourage residents to beat the rush, avoid the penalty, and enroll in health plans before the March 31, 2014 deadline. The purpose of the day is to connect with Ward 7 residents and provide opportunities for them to enroll in affordable health coverage.

Residents can stop by any of the following locations from 11 am until 3 pm EST this Saturday, January 25, 2014.

Note: There will be a 12 noon Enrollment Rally at this location with NFL players and community leaders

Background:
The new health law provides individuals, families, and small businesses in the District of Columbia with new options for quality, affordable health insurance. DC Health Link is the District’s online health insurance marketplace that allows visitors to shop, compare, and buy coverage that fits their needs and budgets.

Eligible residents have until March 31, 2014, to enroll in a health insurance plan through DCHealthLink.com. Those who enroll before February 15, 2014, will have benefits effective March 1, 2014. Small businesses can enroll through DCHealthLink.com at any point.

DC Public Library (DCPL) is a partner of the DC Health Benefit Exchange Authority. DCPL helps to educate District residents and small business owners about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and DCHL.
