DC Health Link Announces Broker Training Sessions

Monday, August 5, 2013
Insurance experts will help small businesses and individuals shop for coverage.
The DC Health Benefit Exchange Authority today announced eight in-person training sessions for insurance brokers who will be selling coverage through DC Health Link, the new online health insurance marketplace being created for District residents and small businesses.
To participate, brokers must reside in the District and have a DC resident license or reside and be licensed in Maryland or Virginia with a non-resident DC license. All trainings are being provided at no cost to brokers from DC, MD, and VA through 2014.
Broker trainings will be conducted by the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU), a nationally recognized voice representing more than 100,000 health insurance agents and brokers nationwide.
Brokers who want to be listed on the DC Health Link website when it opens for enrollment October 1, must complete four hours of DC Health Link policy training by September 6. The policy training will be available in-person and online (available in late August). Brokers will also need to complete two hours of training on how to use the DC Health Link website.
In-person DC Health Link policy trainings will be offered on the following dates (new dates will be added):
  • August 16, 27 and 29
  • September 9, 23, 24, 25 and 30
Training on how to use the DC Health Link website is only available online. This two-hour training will start in late September.
“Insurance brokers are critical to the success of our efforts to provide individuals, families, and small businesses with access to quality, affordable health insurance,” said Mila Kofman, J.D., executive director of the DC Health Benefit Exchange Authority.
