What/Who:
DC Health Link (DCHL) will target the young invincible chess players this weekend as they sharpen their skills at the Big Chair Chess Club. In-Person Assisters will reach out to young chess players to provide them with information about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and DC Health Link, the District’s new online marketplace for health insurance. They, along with licensed insurance brokers, will also provide on-site enrollment.
The Big Chair Chess Club founder, Eugene Brown, whose life is featured in the new Hollywood film, The Life of a King, starring Cuba Gooding Jr., teaches young people to reason and use logic before making a move. Brown’s next move is getting his young players to under the importance of good health care and the role health insurance plays in that scenario.
After 18 years of incarceration for bank robbery, Brown devoted his life to mentoring and working with youth and young adults who have no end game. His goal is to show them a world they never dreamed was possible. Brown teams up with DC Health Link in its quest to educate young people about the logic of having good affordable health coverage and to enroll them in plans that meet their needs, a necessary chess move in life that can make a big difference
