DC Health Link at the Second Annual Latino Health Leadership Symposium: “Boosting Health Insurance Enrollment in the Latino Community“

Last Date:

Location:
1126 16th Street, NW
Building:
National Council of La Raza (NCLR)
Details:

While the rate of uninsured in America has dropped significantly since the enactment of President Obama’s Affordable Care Act (ACA), the uninsured rate in the Latino community is generally higher than the general population.  In fact, according to recent data released by the U.S. Census in 2012-2013, the Latino community has a significantly higher rate of uninsured than other racial groups.  Nearly a third of Hispanics are uninsured in over half of all U.S. states. To address this concern, Latino leaders will come together to discuss how to collaborate and pool resources to educate the community about the benefits of the Affordable Care Act and to explore ways to motivate greater enrollment in quality affordable health insurance. The Latino Leadership Symposium, “Boosting Enrollment in Affordable Health Insurance: Challenges, Opportunities and Solutions,” will feature expert leaders in the Latino community who will share insights into the benefits of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), address issues impacting the enrollment of Latinos and immigrants in quality affordable health insurance through DC Health Link, and offer solutions and opportunities for changing the trajectory.  Special Guest will be Jeanne Lambrew, Assistant to the President of the United States for Health Policy. Other participants t include: moderator, Ofelia Calderon (Immigration Attorney and Founding Partner, Seguin PLC and panelists Alicia Wilson (Executive Director, La Clinica Del Pueblo), Margarita M. Dilone, CIC (President/CEO Crystal Insurance Group, Inc.), Lucero Ortiz, Esq., (Independent Immigration Attorney), Angela Franco (President/CEO, Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce) and Maria Gomez (President/CEO, Mary’s Center).
