This is an annual event where Latino health leaders come together to discuss ways to boost enrollment in the Latino community. The forum will bring together a panel of health experts, insurance professionals, and community leaders to discuss why “Health Insurance Matters” for families, individuals and small businesses in the Latino community. The topic for the 5th Annual Hispanic Health Leadership Symposium, an activity of the National Latino Enrollment Week of Action, is “Health Insurance Matters in the Hispanic Community.” Greetings will be given by Jackie Reyes, Director, Mayor’s Office of Latino Affairs and special remarks by Mark Ruszczyk, Vice President at Kaiser Permanente. There will be two panel discussions. The first panel discussion entitled, “The State of the Health Insurance in the DC Hispanic Community” will be moderated by Julio Guity, Deputy Director, and the Mayor’s Office of Latino Affairs. The panelists include Catalina Sol, Executive Director, La Clinica Del Pueblo who will speak about “The ACA and the Hispanic Community: Barriers and Opportunities,” Marcela Maamari, Vice-President of Ambulatory and Support Services, United Medical Center, who will speak about the “Top Health Challenges in the Hispanic Community” and Maria Gomez, President and CEO, Mary’s Center, who is hare on the topic, “Reaching Hispanics: Effective Outreach Strategies.”

The second panel, “Health Insurance Matters: A Look at the Non-Profit and Small Business Communities, “moderated by Marla Bilonick, Executive Director, Latino Economic Development Center. The panelists include: Tatiana Ahlborn, Business Director, Absolute Builders who will speak on “Providing Health Insurance to Employees: A Competitive Tool,” Joe Andronaco, CEO, Access Green, who will speak about “The Importance of Offering Health Insurance as Part of the Business Budget and Financial Planning in 2019,” and Elaine Coronado, President, Argus Events and Marketing, who will on her personal experience, “My Coverage Story: Testimony from DC Health Link Client.”
